She was known for her work in Malayalam ,Tamil  films. She has also done with fewKannada , and Telugu  films. She has dubbed in her own voice in all these 4 languages. She has written the films"Ulsavamelam " and "Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu ", the latter was also produced by her. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in "Achuvinte Amma " (2005).[3]  She has won theKerala State Film Award for Best Actress  six times, which includes three consecutive wins from 1989 to 1991, two feats no other actress in history has achieved as of 2014.
